Job Purpose: IT Security Analysts plan and carry out security measures to protect the organization's computer networks and systems.
The IT Security Analyst must continually adapt to stay a step ahead of cyber attackers. They must stay up to date on the latest methods attackers are using to infiltrate computer systems and on IT security. The Analyst will need to continually research new security technology to decide what will most effectively protect the organization.
The IT Security Analyst will take the primary role in compliance with the HIPAA Security Rule as it pertains to a health care environment and create the organization’s security policies as well as disaster recovery plan. The plan will include preventative measures such as regularly copying and transferring data to an offsite location. It also involves plans to restore proper IT functioning after a disaster. The IT Security Analyst will continually test the steps in the recovery plan.
Status: Full time, 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
Responsibilities:
- Takes primary responsibility for the organization’s information security plan in compliance with the HIPAA Security Rule and other applicable privacy regulations.
- Takes primary responsibility to update company policies regarding information security in compliance with the HIPAA Security Rule and other applicable regulations. Educates management and end users regarding security policies and procedures.
- Monitors the organization’s networks for security breaches and investigates a violation if one occurs.
- Installs and uses software, such as firewalls and data encryption programs, to protect sensitive information.
- Prepares reports that document security breaches and the extent of the damage caused by breaches.
- Conducts penetration testing, including simulating attacks to look for vulnerabilities in systems before they can be exploited.
- Researches the latest IT security trends.
- Helps plan and carry out the organization’s way of handling information security.
- Develops security standards and best practices for the organization.
- Recommends security enhancements to senior IT staff and other management.
- Helps computer users when they need to install or learn about new security products and procedures.
- BS in computer science, or 5 years IT related field.
- Minimum of 2-5 years in a Health Care Setting
- CISSP - Certified Information Systems Security Professional or be able to obtain one within 90 days after employment
- Must have 4+ years’ experience in an IT Security role. Must be experienced working with Security Software, Documentation, Software Testing, Software Maintenance, Software Development Process, Teamwork, General Consulting Skills, Software Architecture
- Knowledge of HIPAA, specifically the HIPAA Security Rule. Extensive computer software skills are required to include word-processing, spreadsheet. Ability to meet deadlines and respond appropriately under pressure. Training and documentation skills.
- The ability to sit and work on a computer for long periods of time (8-12 hours per day.)
